The Lexus ES330 was the upgraded redesigned version of the ES 300. Both vehicle was based on the Toyota K platform that was widely used in the Camry. The Camry was a very successful vehicle that competed with the Hyundai Sonata, Honda Accord and the Nissan Altima. The Lexus ES 350 was an entry level luxury car for buyers that were wanting an upper end type vehicle without having to spend big bucks on the larger LS400.
Lexus used a 3.3 liter V6 3MZ-FE dual overhead cam all-aluminum engine that was made by Toyota for the Camry. This engine offered more power than the 3.0 liter V6 ES 300 engine because they increased cylinder size, used larger valves in the cylinder heads and an improved electronic fuel injection system. This 3.3-liter motor was also used in the Toyota Camry. The transmission was redesigned to handle more power from the larger engine but was still an electronic type 5 speed automatic front wheel drive.
During the short time the ES 330 was available, Lexus offered an optional Sport Design special edition in 2004. This upgraded version of the base type ES 330 included 17-inch spoke alloy wheels, an Adaptive Variable Suspension, the top end Mark Levinson stereo, several interior upgrades and darker color were offered for the exterior color of the vehicle.
The later model ES330 did get some front end body changes, projector headlights, a clear lens type taillight and a redesigned grill. The interior was spruced up steering wheel mounted controls, heated and vented front seats, Bird’s Rye Maple trim and even an integrated satellite radio.
