The Infiniti EX35 was first shown in Florida in 2007 before going to market in 2008 as a crossover built with a low profile appearance with an aggressive styling. Infiniti used a Nissan built a 3.5-liter 6-cylinder engine called the VQ35HR and used it in other vehicles like the Nissan 350z and in the Infiniti G35. The EX35 was offered in a RWD and AWD models depending on the needs of the buyer.
When Nissan designed the EX35 it was built around the engine that had been used earlier with great success in their vehicle line up. The VQ35HR was given variable exhaust cam timing that helped meet Federal emissions and improve performance. The use of iridium spark plugs further assisted in accomplishing Nissans performance goals and out last the type spark plug used in earlier production engines.
The AWD EX35 used a specific block to accommodate the extra mounts needed to get the power to the front wheels of the car. Making the engine block specific for the AWD version did increase production and limited the market to a more unique buyer. The Nissan Maxima also used a 3.5-liter motor but the external design was different so interchange was limited to a front wheel drive type vehicle.
The transmission used in the EX35 was a high-tech 5 speed automatic that also included a DS sport mode, manual mode and Adaptive Shift technology. This technology was able to learn the driving habits of the operator. The 2011 and 2012 EX35 came with an improved 7 speed automatic transmission. This upgraded transmission used the newest software and not only increased performance but fuel economy as well. The EX35 production vehicle ran from 2008 thru 2012 and was replaced with a restyled EX37 vehicle.
