Locate the Right Replacement Hummer Engine
H1
There are several unique variations of the H1 engine for which your VIN may show. Depending on when your hummer was made, it could require a Detroit Diesel Engine developed by AM General. This set is either a 6.2 or 6.5 Liter Diesel Engine. These two engine types were succeeded by the 6.5 Liter turbo diesel. Other H1’s sold before this often had the 5.7 liter Vortec V8 version of the engine.
If your H1 was made in 2006 or later, it may have the GM Duramax V8 turbo Diesel Engine made for the Hummer H1 Alpha models. This 6.6L turbocharged Diesel motor was GM’s first Diesel engine with exhausts controls.
H2
Starting from 2002 onward, the Hummer H2 was home to a 6.0 Liter V8 Diesel Engine from AM General. This engine was later updated in 2008 with a 6.2 Liter engine of the V8 Diesel Motor. Both of these engines were also offered in numerous GM service & utility vehicles.
With the use of these engines in many models, there is an abundance of possibilities for sourcing used H2 Engines at affordable prices & low overall mileage.
H3
Finding Hummer H3 engines are the easiest of the three models to find. These engines are used in a wide variety of GM vehicles and are readily available from parts suppliers across the country.
The engines available for H3 models are: a 3.5 Liter Engine with 225 lb-ft of torque at 2800 rpm, a 3.7 Liter straight-5 cylinder fuel engine, or the 5.3 Liter Small Block V8 Engine made by GM.
