The Infiniti I35 shared the same engine as the Nissan Altima and the Nissan Maxima. The engine used by Infiniti was a very reliable Nissan built 3.5 liter V6 engine with dual overhead cams and individual coil packs for each spark plug. The individual coil packs help increase the spark going to the cylinders instead of having a coil pack the transmits the spark through wires across the engine to the cylinders. Nissan also upgraded the pistons for the new coding type to handle more horsepower than the previous i30 series as well as the Nissan Maxima. The i35 was position to be an intermediate luxury car with its standard 6 disc CD player that included 200 watts of power, upgraded leather seats, and traction control.
The Infiniti I30 was only produced for two years, the Infiniti G35 seem to have replaced and made the I35 almost redundant for the Infiniti brand. A major difference between the G35 and the I35 is I35 is a front-wheel drive vehicle and the G35 is a rear wheel drive vehicle. Most high-end luxury vehicles with the exception of Volkswagen are rear wheel drive. Front wheel drive vehicles are more economical to produce, but a rear wheel drive vehicle handles better, outperforms, and is in higher demand that a front-wheel drive vehicle. The Nissan Maxima in the Nissan Altima also received the upgraded 3.5 V6 engine, however to this day the maxima and Altima are still front wheel drive vehicles. It seems Infiniti has all but done away with a front wheel drive version of its cars staying strictly rear wheel drive or all-wheel drive depending on the platform. A really good example of a solid Infinity 4 wheel drive is the new QX80, it is pure top in luxury, power it is in very high demand worldwide. the QX80 superceded the QX56 which was based on the Nissan Pathfinder platform, the QX early versions even share the same doors as the Pathfinder did but now the QX80 stands alone.
