A GMC Sierra 1500 truck is exactly the same as the Chevy Silverado 1500 truck. The GMC Sierra has been in production for many years. The beginning years of the Sierra engines were all carbureted. Fuel injection did not come into production until about 1987. The Sierra got the 5.7 liter throttle body injected engine. This engine was very reliable giving good performance and decent fuel economy.

The later model trucks come with a lot of different engines. A popular economy engine option was the 4.3 liter V6. The 4.8 liter was a base type V8 which was durable but under powered. The 6.0 liter was a step up but the 6.2 liter was the highest horsepower pushing about 400 hp. The 6.2 was used in the Hummer H2 and GMC Denali. The 8.1 liter was used mostly in the 2500 series and was a gas guzzler getting about 10 miles to the gallon.
