Ford Flex was made to replace the Ford Freestar minivan in the year 2008. This first generation Flex used a 3.5 liter Duratec V6 engine and the only option for the transmission was a 6 speed automatic FWD. Ford used the same 3.5 liter Duratec V6 engine in Freestar and also Taurus X. The platform and styling came from the Ford Fairlane concept. It was the first full size crossover to feature the properties of both minivan as well as SUV. The 2008 models did get the upgraded 3.5 liter Duratec with 117.9 inch wheelbase and automakers can get these used Flex model engines for sale on drivetrain. The second generation Ford Flex came into market in the year 2009. The models were given new additions and built in the same plant as the Ford Edge. This novel Flex received the new 3.5 liter Eco-boost V6 engine and was paired with same 6 speed automatic transmission. Also, a more enhanced Ford Sync was installed inside 2009MY, which was taken from sixth generation Ford Taurus. 2009MY were backed with 18 inch painted alloy wheels including a line of top SE, SEL and Limited Ford Flex Wagon models. The seats were converted with manual adjustable lumbar support, spilt folding rear setback and manual folding split-bench for third row passengers. Variable intermittent wipers and Intermittent rear wiper enables more flexibility when hauling people in rainy season. 2009 Ford Flex models were given a secure 4- wheel ABS option with a view to make it popular amongst middle and upper class natives.
In 2010, Ford realized that more improvements were needed to be on top of the market. In the third generation 2010MY, the Bi-Xenon headlamps and LED back lights remained customary on restricted models. The quality wheels were 17-inch diameter (SE), 18-inch diameter (SEL), 19-inch diameter (Limited) and 20-inch diameter versions accessible on the restricted or SEL with Eco-Boost engines.
The newest production is 2011-present. The models offers direct-injected, twin-turbocharged EcoBoost engine and is capable of transporting up to 100% of torque to the rear or axle front as needed. The Ford Flex is on the same armature as 2011 and 2012 Ford Explorer. Both 2011 and 2012 Ford Flex are paired with 6 speed automatic transmission FWD as an added drivetrain coach feature.
