Ford F-450SD engine is in an absolute workhorse truck and it is much more than what a pickup owner actually needs to use. The Ford has been a player when competing with the Chevy Silverado and Dodge 3500 work truck.
The Super Duty had several available engines which can be used interchangeably in other similar Super Duty pickups (F-250 to F750). The 7.3 Power Stroke turbo diesel with 235 horsepower (175 kW) and 500 ft·lbf (680 N·m) of torque was available from 1999 to 2000 and upped to 250 hp (190 kW) and 500 ft·lbf (680 N·m) of torque in 2001 to 2002 trucks equipped with an automatic transmission or 275 hp (205 kW) and 520 ft·lbf (710 N·m) of torque for trucks equipped with a manual transmission.
For the first generation Super Duty versions of this vehicle between the years 2005–2008, all models were equipped with the 5.4L Triton combined with the 3V SOHC heads. Power was now rated at 300 hp with 365 lb/ft of torque. Similarly, the 2005+ Triton V10 received 3-valve heads and output was raised to 362 hp (270 kW) and 457 lb·ft (620 N·m).
The Ford F-450 was an all-new model for the next generation came in 2008 and was equipped with a 6.4-liter turbodiesel V8 that made 350 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual transmission was standard, with a five-speed automatic optional. One could also choose between two- and four-wheel drive.
For 2009 and ’10 third generation F-450 Fords offered a Harley-Davidson special edition package.
