The Chrysler PT Cruiser is a classic styled vehicle from Chrysler built starting in 2001 and was phased out in the year 2010. The model was initially launched as a two door hatch back that was later available as a five door convertible. The PT Cruiser was initially launched by Plymouth but it was soon given the Chrysler tag as Plymouth was disbanded soon.
The first generation PT Cruiser sported a 2.4 liter gasoline motor and had high fuel consumption and so Chrysler decided to remodel the car in the year 2002. The 2002 model of the PT Cruiser was a 2.2 liter diesel engine with four cylinders. Chrysler also offered a 2.0 liter engine for the American market in the same year and this became hugely popular. Hence Chrysler decided to phase out the 2.2 liter engine and refit the PT Cruiser with the 2.0 liter engine. Used PT Cruiser engines for sale are available at all major workshops that handle used vehicles.
The Chrysler PT Cruiser uses the same 2.0 liter engine as that on the Dodge SRT 4 and the cars use similar drive train features like a five speed Getrag manual transmission. The major part of the vehicles’ basics is similar hence the motor, transmission system and even the suspension (after some adjustments) can be used on both these vehicles.
In the year 2003, Chrysler offered another major upgrade to the PT Cruiser with the introduction of the PT Cruiser GT which featured a 2.4 liter turbo charged l4 engine which produces 215 HP @ 5,000 RPM. The engine and aftermarket parts of the SRT 4 can be fitted to the PT Cruiser and the GT models for further customization.
Before being phased out, the PT Cruiser introduced a few factory tuned vehicles which became popular among the masses. These vehicles featured new paint schemes and offered added luxury features. However, the basic drive train features were the same apart from a few minor tweaks like introduction of a four speed 41 TE automatic transmission on the Dream Cruiser 5 model, which was introduced in late 2005 and was continued till 2010.
