The first generation Chrysler LeBaron was introduced to the market in 1931-1941. The first generation LeBaron were 2-door coupe, 2-door convertible (roadster), 4-door sedan and 4-door convertible models powered with 6.3 liter Straight-8 125HP engines. First generation models came with three speed and four speed transmission units. The FR layout was similar to Chrysler Imperial.
The second generation Chrysler LeBaron was produced in the year 1957-1975. It was made to compete with luxury brands like Lincoln, Cadillac, and Packard. Second generation 2-door coupe, 2-door convertible, 4-door sedans were created with 6.4 liter V8, 6.8 liter V8 and 7.2 liter V8 motors. In addition, 4 speed automatic transmission units were available in second generation Chrysler LeBaron.
In 1977 Chrysler LeBaron models were recreated again with rear-wheel drive M-body, a rebadged Dodge Diplomat with deluxe trim. The third generation LeBaron was available in 2-door coupe, 4-door sedan and 4-door station wagons. The engines used latest 225 in³ Slant-6, 318 in³ LA V8 and 360 in³ LA V8 versions. 1977 LeBaron featured 3-speed A727 automatic and 3-speed A904 automatic units. It remained in production till 1981.
The fourth generation Chrysler LeBaron appeared in market during 1982-1988. It was based on the front-wheel drive Chrysler K platform similar to Dodge Aries and Plymouth Reliant. Fourth generation LeBaron was equipped with 2.2 liter K I4, 2.2 liter Turbo I4, and 2.5 liter K I4, 2.6 liter Mitsubishi G54B I4 engines. The models also featured 5-speed Getrag A525 manual, 3-speed A413 automatic and 3-speed A470 automatic units.
Fifth generation Chrysler LeBaron came in 1985- 1989. It was a 5-door hatchback equipped with 2.2 L K I4, 2.2 L Turbo I I4, 2.2 L Turbo II I4 and 2.5 L K I4 engines. The models were manufactured with 5-speed Getrag A520 manual, 5-speed Getrag A555 manual and 3-speed A413 automatic units.
In 1987-1895, LeBaron 2 door convertible and coupe models appeared in the market. Sixth generation LeBaron was available in naturally aspirated or turbocharged stock 2.2 liter and 2.5 liter motors. For the 1990 model year a 3.0 liter Mitsubishi V6 engine became available. The Mexican Chrysler Phantom R/T DOHC 16V also offered the same 2.2 liter turbo engine as used in the US market Dodge Spirit R/T.
