Cadillac competing in the crossover market built the Cadillac SRX. The build was based on the Cadillac CTS and shared components like the engine and transmission. The SRX drivetrain was kept down to 2 different options in 2004 making the purchase easier for the buyer and more cost efficient for GM to build.

The low end engine for the SRX is the 3.6 liter V6 engine. This engine offers sound performance and good power for a 6 cylinder engine. The 3.6 liter motor is exclusive for the SRX only in design. The upgraded engine is the redesigned 4.6 liter Northstar V8. When power is an issue and money is not, this is the upgrade a buyer should have in mind. The next generation SRX offers a 2.8 turbocharged engine, a 3.0 liter mid-level V6 and the higher power 3.6 liter engine.
