The Cadillac Seville was built in 1975 as a scaled down version of the Deville but with all the bells and whistles. This was a rear wheel drive car but in the 80’s Cadillac converted the drivetrain to front wheel drive. The engine used in the original Seville was a cast iron Oldsmobile 307 V8 gas engine but later Cadillac tried a diesel 350 Oldsmobile engine that was a converted gas design and it failed.
When the Seville was converted from RWD to FWD they began using the same engine line up as they did with the Deville. The 4.1 liter engine followed by the 4.5 liter, a 4.9 liter replacing the 4.5 and also the 4.6 liter Northstar was an option. The early Northstar engines were soon upgraded with better heads and a bottom end assembly.
