Buick Lucerne Engine

Buick built the Lucerne with more of a progressive car in mind. Buick offered 3 different engines for this model, the 3.8 Series 3 V6, the 3.9 High Value V6 and the 4.6 Northstar V8 engine.

The 3.8 liter engine was the base type engine offered for budget minded buyers. The 3.9 High Value engine have VVTI that added a higher level of performance while not topping out on budget. The most powerful engine offered was the Northstar. This engine really helped Cadillac gain a strong footing for the Deville and Seville line. It was built for power but had issues with head gaskets failing. This was a major setback for GM for a few years until a full redesign was finished on the Northstar Series.
