The Ford Windstar is a front-wheel drive minivan that was produced and sold by the Ford Motor Company from the 1995 to 2003 model years. This minivan was a replacement for the rear-wheel drive Aerostar minivan and shared a similar engine configuration. First generation (1995–1998)The all-new Windstar was released in March 1994 as a 1995 model. The Standard Windstar came with a 3.8 L V6 engine. This engine produced 155 hp (116 kW) and 220 lb·ft (298 N·m) of torque.

1996: A new 3.0 L 150 hp (112 kW) Vulcan V6 became standard on base GL models, while the larger 3.8 L V6’s horsepower was increased to 200.  This help to compete with Dodge caravan that had a 3.0 liter also. 1997: The engine remained the same and a CD player was a new option.

1998: The Windstar received minor cosmetic changes while retaining the same engine.

Second generation (1999–2003)

The Windstar was completely redesigned for the 1999 model year; the 3.0 L and 3.8 L V6 engines were carried over from the previous generation. It was built on a dedicated platform, unlike the previous generation based on the Ford Taurus.

2000:  With no change in the engine, the model introduced this year was a luxury one.

2001: The smaller 3.0 L was withdrawn leaving the 3.8 L as the only engine choice.

2002: Dual sliding doors became standard on all models.

The 2002 Windstar was the most dependable minivan on the market in the JD Powers dependability survey at three years in service in the 2005 survey.

The cars comparable to the Ford Windstar were the Toyota Sienna and the Honda Odyssey.

2003: This was the last year of the Windstar and no major changes were made.

Third generation (Ford Freestar; 2004–2007)

The third generation Ford Windstar was renamed the Ford Freestar. In the United States, the Freestar was available with two different gasoline-powered V6 engines. The smaller 3.9 L developed a maximum power of 193 hp (144 kW) at 4500 rpm and 240 lb·ft (325 N·m) of torque at 3750 rpm, while the larger 4.2 L produces 201 hp (150 kW) at 4,250 rpm and 263 lb·ft (357 N·m) of torque at 3650 rpm.
