The first generation Ford Five Hundred was introduced in the year 2004.  The Five Hundred Ford models were equipped with 3.0 liter Duratec 30 V6 engine. The transmission exceeded its predecessor car Ford Taurus, as it had a ZF Batavia CFT30 CVT 6-speed Aisin F21 automatic unit. This 4- door sedan also came with full size front engine, four wheel drive suspension for better performance and enhanced handling.  The first generation Five Hundred was a giant sedan with 3.9 inches longer and 200.7 inches overall than the Chrysler Intrepid.

The second generation 2006 Ford Five Hundred used a 3.0 liter V6 engine, quite superior than mid generation Mercury Montego and Ford Freestyle. 2006 Five Hundred models produced an output of 203 horsepower as contrast to the powerhouse V6s offered by other competitors. The buyers had a choice of front engine or all-wheel drive experience with continuously variable transmission and a six-speed automatic unit. Second generation Five Hundred was based on a podium shared with Volvo’s S80 and made a widespread use of front wheel drive technology plus Volvo safety. The 2006 models got an improved Traction Control for better acceleration, which was no longer typical on front wheel drive models of 2005 Ford Five Hundred. The third generation Five hundred dropped the base SE trim level and introduced six-speed automatic transmission in their all front wheel drive models.  The Five Hundred cars came with a 3.0-liter V6 engine rated for 207 pound feet of torque and 203 horse powers.

After some time, the Ford Five hundred ended production along with the Mercury Montego and Ford Freestyle. In 2008, the Ford Five Hundred models appeared in market as new Ford Taurus with 263 horse power, 3.5 liter Duratec 35 V6 engine and Ford-GM joint venture six-speed automatic unit.
