The Ford Excursion was introduced in 2000-2005 and was made to out sell the Chevy Suburban. The Excursion offered 3 different engines, the 5.4 liter SOHC Triton V8, a 6.8 liter V10 and a 7.3 Powerstroke diesel V8. The 5.4 was already being used in the Ford F-150, F-250, F-350 and Ford Van. It was a well-built engine and widely used in other markets. The 6.8 liter V10 was only used in ¾ ton and 1 ton trucks and vans. The size and weight of the engine limited the application and fuel economy was poor. The 7.3 Powerstroke diesel engine built by International was a great success. It offered lots of power and torque while maintaining expected mileage for the application. The V10 was an alternative to having a diesel fuel vehicle but the engine was soon dropped from the Ford line.
