Buick offered the 307 Oldsmobile V-8 engine in the rear wheel drive Lesabre back in the 80’s. It was a cast iron built engine but had little horsepower compared with todays V-8 engines. As GM moved away from rear wheel drive cars the engines used were smaller, lighter and more fuel efficient.

The 3.8 liter V-6 engine was very popular, cheap to make and GM took advantage of it’s versatility. It was used more than any other engine GM had at the time. It was installed into Chevy, Pontiac, and Oldsmobile. The fuel systems varied during the years of production as GM fine tuned the engine for best performance and economy.
